Our QLD Award-Winning Historical Restoration
We are very proud to announce that Complete Design and Drafting have won two State awards run by the Building Designers Association of Queensland (BDAQ).
The recognition from BDAQ is for our historic restoration of the famous 1920’s Sandgate home, Cremorne, and the awards include:
Qld State Award Winner 2020 – Best Heritage Design: New/Alteration/Addition
Qld State Award Winner 2020 – Residential Alterations/Additions: Houses $350,001 – $800,000
The Complete Design and Drafting team were excited to have the opportunity to work on this house. Growing up in Sandgate it has always been a design dream to work on one of Sandgate’s most famous waterfront homes, Cremorne. ‘We used to ride our bikes on the foreshore past this house. I always said if I won Gold Lotto, this is the house I’d buy and do it up.” our very own Jim McKeering told Brooke Jacobson from If The Shoe Fits Media (which also appeared in August’s Sandgate Guide pg 44)
Working on this home and being a part of restoring it to its former glory with a great team of people that included, the owners Leisa and Kevin Day and builder Kim Alexander, is something that our firm feels really proud of. To then win these prestigious building design awards is a huge thrill for us.
Cremorne is a 1920’s house that was known for garden parties and entertaining. Since it’s glory days the house has undergone some 1970 extensions and had been transformed and divided into six flats. Our job was to transform an iconic heritage-listed home to its ‘former glory’. The challenges we faced were internally transforming a set of run-down flats into a luxury family home while reserving traditional features and delivering a modern-day, functional house.
On completion, the two 1970’s extensions were removed but the rest of the outside of the house was left mostly unchanged. Unfortunately, little of the inside of the interior could be kept but the design keeps as much original Art Deco detail as possible with door knobs and cornices and a stunning Art Deco colour scheme and style that continues throughout the house, starting with a magnificent grand entryway.
This historic home now features a beautiful open plan kitchen and living area, which flows out onto the huge deck facing the seaside. There are four bedrooms, and a fireplace, as well as spacious lawns outside and a sparkling in-ground pool.
