Magnificent Character Queenslander undergoes Flawless Transformation

Our team have been thrilled to work alongside owner/builder James Hall, on this stunning restoration in Manly.

The spectacular location, only 1km from Manly Harbour Village and foreshore, encapsulates the much sought after bayside lifestyle. With beautiful paths along the esplanade, markets and cafes, the Manly train station and wonderful schools all within walking distance. The elevated, large 810 sqm block, also boasts incredible, panoramic views as you can enjoy a perfect sunrise every morning across the water from the back deck, or take in the spectacular city lights from the front deck in the evenings.

The character Queenslander, ‘Fairview’, built in 1916, was virtually in original condition and definitely in a state of disrepair. The previous family had lived in the home for over 90 years, with the only renovation being closing in the front in the 60’s. Meticulous planning was required in order to achieve the following objectives.

Working alongside owner/builder, James Hall, we came up with the main priorities of saving the original home, restoring the character, and completing a lift and build to make the most of the views which were the star of the show. We needed to save as many original materials and hardware as possible to restore the features like the front deck, windows, metal ceilings, and beautiful aged floors to create that rustic charm.

This premier home now blends traditional and Hamptons styles, fitting in perfectly with the bayside lifestyle. Whilst it features many contemporary elements, the home oozes original charm upstairs with it’s original hoop pine floors, pressed metal ceilings, VJ wall and picture rails, and downstairs through engineered oak flooring, wainscoting, fretwork and handmade cornices.

The beautiful upstairs area boasts front and back decks to make the most of the panoramic views, making it an entertainers delight. Downstairs you also have impressive glass sliders opening out to the alfresco entertaining area, complete with porcelain tiles, a Marmorino feature wall (Venetian plaster) and a large landscaped garden.

Other features include –
-Kitchen designed with a stone island bench, herringbone marble splashback, pendant lighting, Smeg appliances and a butler’s pantry
– Inviting entryway with Travertine tiles, landscaped yard and gardens
– Master suite featuring a modern ensuite and a retreat/nursery
– The third bedroom can serve as a study and boasts views over the marina
– Family bathroom showcasing a freestanding bath and semi-frameless shower
– Fourth bedroom downstairs features a built-in robe and two-way ensuite
– Zoned ducted air-conditioning upstairs and a split system downstairs
– Electric gate accessing the single car garage and large carport
– Side access and room for a pool with power and water connection

It really was a wonderful experience working on this project, ensuring an old character Queenslander received the full attention it deserved, to become a now premier Manly residence.
